0:19.1 | Hey everybody, I'm excited to be recording the 12th episode of the All Things Fishing podcast this week. This week, I'm continuing the three-part series I'm doing called Hooks. Oh, sorry, called Terminal Tackle. So, like I said last week, Terminal Tackle for me is sinkers, hooks, and swiveles. Technically, like I said last week, that category does include leaders. I don't use leader the whole lot. I don't know a whole lot about them. They are really useful for a lot of different situations, though. Like if you're fishing really clear water, like the 20-pound braided line that I use will really stand out. But if you're fishing, like, I fish really murky water, so that's the only reason I don't use. |
0:55.0 | Like, I don't really have to worry about the fish seeing the braided line that I use. |
1:00.0 | But they're really useful. There's like spreader, spreader, leader rigs, stuff like that. |
1:04.0 | You can spread two hooks apart, really good for, really good for bottom cat fishing. |
1:10.0 | Yeah, so I've been trying to use, I've been trying to use leaders more and more. They're really useful for cat for bottom cat fishing um yeah so i've been trying to use uh i've |

1:22.3 | that's really all there is to it um but there are multiple hooks you can choose from so without without getting into all different companies that make hooks, there are two types of hooks. |
1:31.7 | There's J hooks and there's circle hooks. |
1:34.6 | So J hooks are by far the best for hooking. |
1:37.6 | I say by far, they're not much better, but if you want to, if you're going to be doing a lot |
1:41.7 | of worm fishing or fishing with bait, any like hot dogs, um, if you're going to be doing a lot of worm fishing or fishing with, uh, fishing with bait, uh, any like hot dogs, cheese, uh, minnows, worms, stuff like that. Uh, if you, if you're going to be fishing with stuff like that, then a J hook is a lot easier to, because just because of the angles, um, it's a lot easier to hook bait on because like like the name says it looks like the |
2:01.9 | J hooks are shaped like a J. Circle hooks look a bit more like a circle so circle looks |
2:09.0 | make it the whole idea behind a circle look is that it is harder for the fish to |
2:13.5 | swallow hook and if it does swallow the hook it is um it the little point that is |
2:18.6 | penetrating the fish's mouth is pointed back towards the straight part of the hook which is |
2:22.7 | usually called the shank of the hook so it's pointed back the little tip is pointed |
2:26.5 | back to the shank of the hook which makes it harder for the um it makes it harder for the fish |
