Summary
On 18 May 2012, When Diplomacy Fails Podcast broke into the history podcast scene, and the rest is history! For more than a decade, this show has granted me opportunities and experiences I never dreamed possible. It made me who I am today, from my past jobs, to my education, literally down to where I am professionally and personally right now.
This is the story of how something as simple as a history podcast can radically change a young guy's life, and although this episode is basically me talking about myself for over an hour, I hope it'll prove to you how ANYONE can do something like this. All you need is passion, and a lot of patience. I cannot thank you enough for helping me get this far, and I can't wait to see where we take WDF in the next decade! Thanksss for an incredible ten years!

| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome history friends patrons all to something a little bit different and a little bit special. |
| 0:18.0 | You see, when diplomacy fails is 10 years old now. Well, it's technically 10 |
| 0:22.4 | years old for May, but things were happening in Zach's life. Moving house is a complete pain, |
| 0:27.9 | and then I got COVID, so there wasn't really time to do any ridiculous celebrations that I |
| 0:33.4 | normally do. Don't worry, there's no 10 weeks to run wild coming your way. But there is a few |
| 0:38.7 | episodes in the next few weeks or so, basically kind of summarizing the last decade of history |
| 0:45.0 | podcasting, the last third of my life, believe it or not. So here's how it's going to work. |
| 0:49.5 | This episode here is going to be a kind of retrospective, basically putting into context, |
| 0:53.9 | because we love context, |
| 0:55.6 | the role this podcast has had in my life, the role that all these different opportunities to |
| 1:01.5 | explore history has had, and how when diplomacy fails has really made such a positive difference |
| 1:08.0 | to me, how it's made me a better historian and really a better person |
| 1:11.5 | and a better professional too. So yeah, if you like these kinds of explorations, I know if I was |
| 1:18.0 | listening to a history podcast and a history podcaster was like, this is basically my life |
| 1:22.7 | of the last 10 years. I'd be like, oh, cool. But I understand this is not for everyone. So it may even come |
| 1:29.3 | across as a little bit self-indulgent because by nature of these things, I'm talking about |
| 1:34.4 | myself for essentially an hour. So if that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then feel |
| 1:39.5 | free to go and get coffee somewhere else. But if you are interested, then great. |
| 1:44.8 | Still to come in these celebrations |
| 1:47.9 | is an episode looking at my 10 favorite series, |
| 1:51.5 | an episode looking at my 10 favorite historical figures, |
| 1:54.7 | an episode looking at my 10 favorite guests, |
