Ted Simon has probably influenced and shaped if not kicked off the whole

adventure motorcycle travel scene when back in the early 70s he wrote his motorcycle around the world

and wrote articles for a newspaper while en route. Then when he returned he wrote a book

called Jupiter's Travels and Jupiter's Travels took off in ways that Ted could never have imagined,

selling like hot cakes around the world and still selling briskly almost five decades later.

Ted is a fascinating man that has led an incredibly interesting life in which motorcycles

and travel have pretty much always been intertwined. This May 1st, 2024, Ted turns 93 years old.

So for Ted's 93rd birthday, I sat down with him to talk about how a rider today

could have an adventure like he did back in the 70s and over the time we talked

Ted came up with a few criteria his rules so to speak that any of us can do must do

really to have a real adventure. The formula I guess you need to do if you want

to get an idea of what it was like for Ted back in the 70s and have a similar adventure today.

We also stumble across a little have a similar adventure today.

We also stumble across a little known fact about the renowned Jupiter's travels, the book.

That was that Ted may not have been completely alone for the entire trip.

Now Ted's going to tell us a story, as well as others,

but in this story he's going to explain why his vision for his trip

meant that he had to turn his back on someone special to him.
