You've seen armed paramilitary forces, tear gas, flash grenades, unprovoked arrests.

I'm sure you've seen the video of a Navy veteran getting beaten with a baton and then

gasped for the crime of standing.

I'm sure you've seen videos showing camouflaged officers throwing protesters into unmarked

vans.

So how did we get here?

Protests have been happening since May in Portland, just like in a slew of other cities

around the country.

And they were largely peaceful, just like they've been in a slew of other cities around
