And Abby Cardis. Hello. And the three of us are going to talk about a recent article from

New York Magazine called The Case for Forcing the Mentally Ill into Treatment. It argues that

expanding the use of forced treatment and reopening state asylums and residential hospitals

could solve the quote unquote problem of severe mental illness.

The article written by Freddie DeBower and published on June 20th is not very convincing, but it is a very clear example of a shallow argument used by people across the political spectrum to justify expanding forced treatment and putting people

into institutions claiming it's in their best interest.
