Thank you. There is a whole list of things that James just did that made him so just or righteous, and that is one of the big reasons he got the name, the Just One. The other thing we know, and that is important here,

is that James was elected to be the very first bishop of a local church. He was elected by the

apostles to be the first bishop of Jerusalem,

making him the first bishop, period. Remember, at this point, there is no bishop of Rome,

therefore there is no pope. It's very likely that the earliest follows of the Jewish movement

in Antioch weren't even organized enough at this time to have an official local leader.

Just elders teaching this new faith or this new version of the Second Temple Faith,

their own sect, they're pushing their own agenda.

It is in James' role as the first bishop that he began

the investigation into the situation of Christians in Antioch. Let's just take a quick second here

to tell the rest of the story and summarize the end of James' life because it's a really interesting

story too

and it'll help us illuminate a little bit about him.
