And it feels like one of the things you're also really trying to do in this brief is push back against that narrative that's in the popular imaginary about why people miss court in the first place.

sketchy like lurking around in the shadows, like how much responding to that image

And I think that that is like, this is such a good example of that, right?

Because as I mentioned in the piece, like, if you were to hear the commercial bail bond industry,

prosecutors, you know, a lot of people

tell the story. Like you said, there needs to be this skin in the game. We need to have pretrial

detention. If someone's been arrested, that tells us something about who they are and their

danger to all of us, as if like the policing is in you know unimpeachable uh or the decision to

prosecute or how to prosecute or any of these things and yeah i i just think that um when you

sort of spell out how unbelievably disruptive something like this is like not even just thinking

about the initial police contact which can be dangerous and disruptive, right?

Like even just an encounter with the police starts off a whole chain of events.
