And today we're going to discuss the events that have followed the murder of Jordan Neely.

On May 1st, Neely, a black man was murdered

on the New York City subway by a white ex-Marine and two others who helped hold him down

in broad daylight on camera as bystanders cheered. The response to this gruesome event has been

terrible. Liberals have called it justified. The AP initially said that it was, quote, a defense against

disorder, though they have backtracked, and vigils for Neely have been met with swift police

violence. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has also used the murder to dial up his calls for increased

involuntary hospitalization and other carceral protectionist frameworks.

So this tragedy really highlights how people who are unhoused are treated as both

medicalized and criminalized, and how public transportation is also being portrayed in media

right now as a kind of war zone, instilling fear and promoting violence against unhoused
