So while we're on the topic of health policy, I guess, let's talk about something that I think has come up practically not at all in the election, or that most media outlets, I think, seem to just really think is literally no big deal, which is Medicaid Unwinding.

If you haven't heard us talk about this before or just in general, because it's been a while just to kind of set this up.

So we're going to be talking about Medicaid unwinding.

This was the process that, you know, over the course of about

the last year, more than a year from April 2023 onward, saw states going through their entire

Medicaid roles to kick people off who had otherwise been able to stay on Medicaid for, in some

cases, the entire duration of the COVID public health emergency. We've talked about that

extensively in a lot of other episodes. It came up a lot in like COVID year three and COVID year

four where we talk a lot. I think the focus there was a lot about how the sort of expansion

of Medicaid through keeping people enrolled over the course of the public health emergency

was this giant pandemic welfare state intervention that was then just in the 11th hour decoupled from

the public health emergency itself so that they could sort of the Biden administration.

That is so the Biden administration could kind of avoid the association of them declaring the end of the

pandemic public health emergency, then generating headlines saying like, you know,

Biden administration declares end to public health emergency, putting social safety net insurance

in jeopardy for millions of people, et cetera. So this is this was basically, you know, over the course of the last year, a purge of millions of people, et cetera. So this is, this was basically, you know, over the course

of the last year, a purge of millions of people from the U.S.'s social safety net health insurance

program of last resort. Listeners will know that this is an important saga for us that we haven't

had a chance to check in on in some time. And we now have some of what I think are going to be the final, if not the final

numbers on it. I think what a lot of places have said are kind of going to be the final big

analyses that they're going to do about it, which is at least what Katzer Family Foundation.
