Teachers, what is the greatest way a student has misinterpreted one of your assignments?

Not an assignment, but a case study in an exam.

Intro Prack exam. The student had to do an intro health assessment interview,

just rapport building and exploring the client's health.

This one kid comes in and sits down and proceeds to mispronounce the condition in his case study, multiple times.

Not only that, but the mispronunciation was for a different type of condition that was not related to the subject at all,

and actually didn't exist. And it was obvious he had not been attending classes.

He also did numerous other things wrong, so ended up failing.

When Marx were released, I received a long email from him about how I was unfair and failing him

as he was exemplary, etc, etc. I responded politely, pointing out that he had confused the actual

condition in the case with another unrelated, non-existing condition, and that he needed

to consider how he might approach a similar situation in the subsequent and more important exam.

I didn't hear from him again, but he did start turning up to classes. At the end of the semester,

the student had to address three case study scenarios and perform a specified task for each. A different marker

took each case. This kid comes in, cool, calm and confident. He comes to me for his final

case, and out of 100 plus odd cases happens to pull the same one as his first assessment

with me. Seriously, a 1% chance. And he proceeds to make the same pronunciation error

as the first time. I stopped him and asked, are you sure it is condition X? Yes, you are 100% sure

it is that. Yes, are you sure it might not be something else? Absolutely sure. Okay. The student

acting the case knew what I was getting at and struggled to keep a straight base.

The actual condition was rumored arthritis. The condition the student identified it as haemoroid arthritis.

How on earth do you get those things confused?
