Summary

Isadora Kosofsky (b. 1993, USA) is a documentary photographer, photojournalist, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She began photographing at the age of 14, documenting individuals in hospice care.  She takes an immersive approach to visual storytelling, spending months and years embedded in the lives of the people she shadows. For her, the relationships formed with the subjects are tantamount to the image-making. Her area of focus is American social issues, looking at the intersection of personal and political conflicts. She works on a range of subject matters through the lens of one individual or group of people, looking at mental health, incarceration, substance use, disability rights, gender violences, childhood trauma, senior citizen rights, documenting from an interpersonal, humanistic stance.  She has contributed to the NY Times, TIME, the New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, Stern, Le Monde, M le Magazine du Monde, GEO Germany, Paris Match, The London Sunday Times, The Guardian, Slate, Internazionale, and many others. She is currently on assignment for National Geographic Magazine. She is the recipient of the 2012 Inge Morath Award from the Magnum Foundation for her multi-series work on the aged. She was nominated for a 2016 Lead Award (German Pulitzer) for her long-term documentary about a senior citizen love triangle.   Photographer Links:  Isadora Kosofsky Diana Markosian:   Education Resources: Momenta Photographic Workshops https://momentaworkshops.com/workshops/   Candid Frame Resources Making Photographs: Developing a Personal Visual Workflow Download the free Candid Frame app for your favorite smart device. In his play as you like it, William Shakespeare wrote this about love.

If thou rememberest not the slightest folly that ever did make thee run into. Thou hast not loved.

0:22.8

It was as true then as it is now. We do the strangest and oddest things in the pursuit

of love. I don't think that I only speak for myself when I admit that some of my choices

were led more by the impulsivity of my heart rather than the reasoning

of my mind. I have enough embarrassing anecdotes to prove that fact. Those experiences have colored

the way I consider other people's choices in their own pursuit of love, especially when

those choices are different from what many might consider traditional

or socially acceptable.

When Isidora Kosovsky began documenting the romantic relationship of three seniors, it was

propelled by more than just the curiosity of a senior love triangle.

1:09.5

It was an exploration of what it means to belong, to be needed, and to be loved at any age.

1:16.7

This personal project demonstrates that the need and desire for love does not fade with time.

This is IbarianX and welcome back to the Candid Frame.

I got turned on to your work a while back, and then when I went to...

1:39.2

Photoville?

1:40.3

PhotoVille. And it popped into my head again. Oh, well, yeah.

1:44.6

God, why haven't I got in touch with it?

1:46.3

Because I remember when I first saw the work, I forget in what magazine article I saw it or something, maybe online.

1:53.1

I immediately just gravitated to it.

1:54.9

I thought it was just wonderful.

So I'm glad we finally got around to having a chance to talk with you.
