Summary

Francisco Alcalá is a humanitarian and travel photographer with a focus on social and cultural documentaries. The images that he creates are positive, visually compelling and with profound meaning that reflects his artistic sensibility and his great respect for people independently of origin, genre, or socioeconomic level. He founded the Home Storytellers that produces multimedia content for NGOs working with refugee populations.  He believes that visual communication is a powerful medium to bring together and to generate dialog between the diverse factors that contribute to social development. His vision is the result of his broad experiences in a professional career of more than 30 years in the Supply Chain of the Food Industry-leading many people in manufacturing plants and operations in North America, Latin America, Asia, and Australia.  Due to his love for photography and his desire to contribute to social development, at the end of 2013, he retired from his position as VP Latin America Supply Chain to accelerate the completion of a Master in Fine Arts in Photography with the Academy of Art University.   Photographer Links:  Francisco Alcalá Home Storytellers David Bowman   Education Resources: Momenta Photographic Workshops https://momentaworkshops.com/ Focus on the Story Workshop - Washington DC   Candid Frame Resources http://ibarionexperello.squarespace.com/new-page/ https://tinyurl.com/ublrpzq Making Photographs: Developing a Personal Visual Workflow https://tinyurl.com/t4tnc2r https://tinyurl.com/uk6xeae https://tinyurl.com/tbqrbyl Download the free Candid Frame app for your favorite smart device. We share feelings of anxiety and fear about the wave that's coming, and that strange, surreal

Yet this crisis reminds me how many good people I have in my life.

Rather than talking about inept government or sharing false rumors, we take pleasure in talking to each

other, either by phone or Skype or Zoom. For a brief time, we shut off the noise and just connect.

We're not in denial about what's happening. We know all too well that we are families, our friends, our public servants,

and people all over the world. We know what we're all facing. It's not about burying our heads in the sand.

Instead, it's simply letting the other person know that they're not alone.

1:10.0

Because despite the fact that everyone on this planet is going to

be impacted by this crisis in one way or another, it's far too easy to think you are alone in this.

Recent events had not yet happened when I asked Francisco Alcala to appear as a guest on the show.

1:29.3

I was inspired and moved by the work he's done with his non-profit Home Storytellers,

which he founded alongside his daughter, Alejandra.

In collaboration with NGOs, Home Storytellers uses multimedia to tell the stories of refugees,

who, with the help of these organizations, create a new life for themselves after having lost everything.

1:54.0

In the face of the threat of this pandemic that threatens life and livelihood, I take my cue from people like these. People who have

already lost everything, yet who choose to rise up. They've lost their lands, their home,

2:11.6

their property, loved ones, and have every reason to give up, but they don't.

2:18.6

We don't know what life will look like on the other side of this crisis.

2:24.0

Some of us will have lost more than others.

But regardless of its individual impact on any of us, we don't have to feel powerless.
