This is IbodyNX and this is The Candid Frame.

With each opportunity that I have to talk about what I do, it provides me a chance to think about not just what I do, but why I do it.

And having to explain my process, I really have to turn the lens on myself to understand

the how and the why of what I do.

That's why teaching can be just as much a learning experience for me as it is for my students.

When I have the opportunity to do that with others, the learning experience becomes

all the more interesting and thought-provoking.

And I had just that opportunity when I shared the stage with Colin Westerbeck and Julia

Dean.

Colin is an educator and a curator who is also the co-author of Bystander, a history

of street photography.

Julia is the founder of the Los Angeles Center of Photography, formerly the Julia-Dine

Photography Workshops.

Both of them have appeared previously on the show, and I'll have links to their episodes

in the show notes.

We led a panel on the topic of street photography at the DNJ Gallery in Santa Monica,

in which we discussed not only the definition of street photography,

but also the role of the editor, the impact of smartphones,

and what it takes to make a good photo a great photograph.
