Summary

On this Tuesday Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means and Andrew Gillis discuss Ohio State's 2025 quarterback commit Tavien St. Clair. Even before Ryan Day showed up the Buckeyes had had an impressive run of in-state quarterbacks who would go on to do impressive things in Columbus, some of them turning into Heisman Trophy winners and others leading the team to national titles. But can St. Clair one day develop into both as a fast-rising prospect that could one day earn five-star status? Plus a look ahead to what the quarterback room could look like by the time he arrives. Hey, hey, where you been? But God talk is about to begin. Hey, hey, hey, come on in.

0:31.0

Welcome back to Bucket Talk. Stephen means Andrew Gillis and it's Tuesday, which means it's recruiting day on Bucket Talk.

0:38.0

If you listen to the Monday pod, you heard Nathan and I go pretty in depth about Ohio State's matchup with Notre Dame on Saturday, specifically the quarterback situation with Kyle McCord and Sam Hartman.

0:49.0

And we're going to continue that theme. Andrew today on the recruiting pod, not necessarily a Notre Dame Ohio state relation here, but Ohio State in 2025 has a quarterback by the name of Dave

0:59.0

and saying Claire, he's number 129 player, number eight quarterback in this class. And he has spent the last year turning himself into the type of guy who by the time he graduates, he might be a five star recruit, top 50 recruit with the development path he is on and you went to see him.

1:16.0

You went to go see him Friday, play football and then you were there Monday, you actually just got back as we're sitting down the record this.

1:23.0

First of all, what were your impressions of seeing Dave being saying Claire live in an action Friday night?

1:29.0

He's a physically mature kid. He's only six foot three, but he's 215 and 63215 is the way that he kind of looks and kind of carries it.

1:40.0

You just kind of look at him and you're like, this kid's 17. This is a 17 year old high school kid, like it doesn't look that way.

1:48.0

And like, Tavian, he carries it really well. So physically, he's impressive, just in terms of like, you know, his build and kind of what he what you would look for in a quarterback, you know, being the requisite size and things like that.

2:02.0

But, you know, that's that's something that, you know, really kind of stood out to me and then immediately after just the way that he kind of throws the ball, it's a smooth throwing motion.

2:12.0

But there's not a clunkiness to it. You know, you see some high school kids, they throw it a little bit like Colt Brennan sometimes RIP.

2:19.0

That's a pull, but it's like it. The best way to phrase it, if you're a baseball fan out there, it would be like Randy Johnson pitching like it doesn't release over the top.

2:29.0

So it releases on the right side. I guess that would be like two o'clock, you know, like, you know, it doesn't come over the top and he's just got really good mechanics.

2:37.0

The ball comes out quick. It comes out tight and on a spiral. So there's a lot of things to be impressed with with Tavy and just in kind of how he carries himself.

2:47.0

But, you know, just what he is as a player.

2:50.0

So what's the ups in Europe? And once again, we're asking to evaluate six in this situation, a guy who's not going to be here for another 18 months.

2:57.0

I know he did review to you that he is early enrolling, which that's typically the case with quarterbacks.

3:02.0

I mean, he's really early enrolling. The fact that Lincoln Keenholes, sitting early enrolling with more of the outlier with Ohio's age quarterback situation than what we come to expect here.

3:10.0

Did you see the reason why people are excited about him? Even if it was just flashes. And if so, what was that?

3:17.0

Yeah, I think, you know, if you go to, you know, our YouTube page, there was a video of him kind of running for like a 30 something you are touched down.

3:26.0

So you saw that and that's a really, that's a really good reason to get excited.
