Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Wednesday,

April 2nd. We've been talking about it for weeks, but President Donald Trump's so-called Liberation

Day is finally here. Despite Trump telling reporters on Monday night that he's settled on his tariff

plan, White House advisors were still presenting

options to him yesterday. Among the plans being considered are customizing rates for each U.S.

trading partner, levying tariffs on certain countries but not others, or a flat rate as high as

20% on all imports.

When they are announced, the White House says they'll take effect immediately, and countries

are poising themselves to respond to any duties. But Trump says he's not worried.

And I think a lot of them will drop their tariffs, because, you know, they've been unfairly

tariffing the United States for years.

Two Republicans have won special House elections in Florida.

Randy Fine and Jimmy Petronis will replace GOP representatives Matt Gates and Mike Waltz,

giving the party a little more breathing room to get Trump's agenda through Congress.

It's a win for the president who had endorsed both candidates.

But CNN, Steve Contorno, says there were some positives for Democrats as well.

Both races were much narrower than they were just five months ago

when Republicans captured these districts by more than 30 points.

Republicans were especially concerned about Florida's 6th congressional district.

There, the Democratic candidate Josh Wheel sent shockways from Florida to Washington

when he announced last month that he had raised almost $10 million in his race against fine.
