We've had more than our fair share of 11th hour negotiations in Northern Ireland.

So as the Brexit trade talks go down to the wire, we are better placed than others, perhaps

elsewhere on these islands to pick up on some of the subtleties of what's going on behind the scenes.

That's what we're discussing on this week's red lines.

But before we dive fully into that, let's have a word on the agreement that has

been reached on the Northern Ireland Protocol. Does it look like a sensible compromise for

everyone involved, Garth? Well, it would appear to look like that. Certainly, that's the way

Michael Gove is presenting it. I think from the viewpoint of business, the supermarkets and consumers,

it looks a lot better than it might have been, particularly if you like your chilled meats.

From the viewpoint of unionists, they're never going to like an Irish sea border.

And if Sammy Wilson felt less British because of the withdrawal agreement last night,

I imagine he doesn't feel any more enamoured with it today.

Well, I don't think it's the classic let's kick the calm down the road

that the British governments are pretty good at.

I don't think it's going to satisfy those unions

who are worried about a border

down the Irish Sea, but it is probably enough for just right now, and it's going to allay

the fears of some of the supermarkets who've talked about difficulties, potential difficulties

with supplies. So probably enough for now.
