pornography, and how to talk to our kids about it. In recent years, we have seen a rise in

pornography. Children view porn earlier now than ever before. Parents are so scared to freely discuss sex with

their children that 60% of adolescents and teens report watching pornography to, quote, fill in the

gaps of their sexual education. Children between the ages of 8 to 18 spend approximately

seven and a half hours per day devoted to media. And more than half of the media that they

consume during the day contains sexual references. Studies have shown that women are as likely to be depicted in sexually

provocative clothing in G-rated movies as they are in R-rated movies. 51% of 15 to 19-year-olds

believe that girls feel pressure to share sexually explicit images online.

In studies of both men and women with sex addiction, pornography plays a major contributor to

addictive behaviors. So how does porn culture change our brains and how can parents do a better job teaching their children about sexual norms without shame and with enough clarity that children do not feel the need to look at pornographic images to inform their understanding of sex?
