Summary

We've reached the end of the month, which means it's once again time for another installment of our community podcast! Join us as we discuss dangerous Simpsons-adjacent submarine voyages, the continued adventures of the WGA strike, new comic collections that happen to feature our Wife of the Show, the slightly-altered July podcast schedule, and more! And, as always, we read and respond to your questions and comments from the most recent round of episodes. So join us for the last Talk to the Audience of our soon-to-be-fabled "Berkeley Era!"

Ahoihoi everybody and welcome to talk to the audience where this is always death, I am one of your host Bob Mackie, saying bye bye to Berkeley, who's here with me today as always.

0:23.0

Soon to be resident of Mission Hill, Henry Gilbert, hello!

0:26.8

And in case you didn't know, this is our community podcast at the end of the month on the Patreon, at the beginning of the month on the free feed, we go over what happened in the Simpsons world, and in our world, and then we respond to your questions and comments from the last round of episodes, and yes, this is the final talk to the audience of what I'm calling the Berkeley era of talking Simpsons.

0:44.6

A one chapter ends, another begins, yeah, for the last five years, every podcast has been recorded in Berkeley, unless we were on assignment in Los Angeles or on a live show in Portland, perhaps, but other than that, and especially during the lockdown, everything has been in this one room in my Berkeley apartment.

1:06.4

And I think you're going to hear at least two months worth of episodes in the Berkeley apartment, but after that, it'll be the Pacific Northwest Remote Studios.

1:14.2

And then occasionally in person. Yes, yeah, we've, we're going to be working all that out over time, but this is the last community podcast here, and I guess you can look forward to in August, at some point, I guess, probably the last one in August, I'm guessing, will be the last podcast we record in this Berkeley studio.

1:33.6

But that remains to be seen, there's, we're still scheduling it out up until the end here, but the notices have been put in the, we're leaving the, but the movers have been booked down payments have been made.

1:47.0

Yes, yeah, apartment contracts have been signed with new old evil landlords of giving away to new evil landlords. It's a fun time. Yeah, but a busy time to also be recording two months worth of podcasts in a month.

2:02.3

Yes, but thankfully, this is kind of a light month for talk to the audience. I think most of the news is about us and changes that will be happening and things I'll be remaining the same just to update our listeners.

2:12.3

We'll get to that in a bit. Let's go over Simpson's news. The writer's guild strike is still going on. And recently, there was a gathering of many Simpson's all stars from Mac graining, the James all Brooks to Conan O'Brien, Al Jean, Josh Weinstein, Dana Goldimatt, Selman, and even friends of friends were there.

2:31.4

So, you know, even if they're not on the show, they're supporting the guild and the Simpson's writers. So it was fun to see them all out there. And I would have liked to be there, but I feel like they wouldn't have wanted a fan in their midst.

2:43.4

I wonder, you know, we would have had Julia Prescott was their previous guest on talking Simpson slash writer of Simpson's episode.

2:52.0

That's the one thing we haven't done yet. Yeah, but it's an important stipulation. Maybe Julia could, you know, if we were there, like, hey, can we be your friends and carry a sign here?

3:01.1

But I, you know, I wondered like the more the merrier they'd maybe want us, but yes, they probably want to focus on their, their totally reasonable battle for their demands of the strike.

3:14.6

And they don't want friends gawking it or fanboys gawking at them and saying, like, Mac graining, will you draw on my side? I want to keep this forever.

3:24.2

Yeah, I mean, they're caring about, you know, health care for their children.

3:28.5

Yes, and if their jobs can continue to exist in a livable way and not be replaced by AI, you know, the coolest thing is getting ahead of a future story on this podcast.

3:41.7

But Josh Weinstein was there and he said that he met guys that he hadn't seen in like 20 years at it.

3:51.0

I would assume that includes Conan O'Brien, who we've heard from Josh tell the story of how it was, you know, Bill, Josh, Conan, and Amigrat for like a month at the Simpsons offices.

4:04.6

It sounded fun. I was thinking this could be dangerous for us because all of these writers gathering, sharing old stories. What if one of them thinks, hey guys, we need to start a podcast.

4:13.4

Oh, man. And they've got all this free time being on the picket line.
