In modern Protestant Christianity, spiritual gifts are supernatural abilities or capacities

given by the Holy Spirit to individual believers, not for personal gain, but to serve and

build up the Christian church.

When growing up in the church, this felt empowering, but looking back, I see through the

scam.

This list of spiritual gifts is carefully prescribed to enforce organizational hierarchy

and to inspire churchgoers to further invest in the cause.

For example, if your spiritual gift is generosity, you'd feel more compelled to put more money in the offering plate.

This spiritual sorting hat is ripe with bias and not an accurate assessment

of a person's individual skills or potential. It also reinforces stereotypes related to gender.
