Recently, we published a fun little post on our Facebook page.

There was a screenshot of my face with a caption,

when they tell you to submit to men.

In response to this post, we had multiple Christians tell us that we're taking the Bible out of context.

We even had some tell us that we've misinterpreted very specific scripture or verses to force them to come to that conclusion.

The funny part is, as you can see, we did not mention Christianity.

We did not mention any specific religion.

We did not quote any scripture or verses or anything like that.

We didn't even mention a specific theist or anything,

but so many Christians have jumped in claiming that we've misinterpreted their scripture

through this meme. They're so desperate to say that we've misinterpreted the text that they've

actually betrayed their own bias towards it, in our opinion. Let's discuss why you, as Christians,

automatically assume when you see a caption that says when they tell you to submit to men,

that it's referring to the Bible. Isn't that telling? It seems to me that despite the protests,

you already understand at least on a subconscious level that it is a problematic part of

Christianity and that your rush to defend it when no Christian context has been given betrays

that aspect of it. So if you are one of those people, if you are somebody who is a Christian,

who identifies as a Christian, who sees this meme and who felt called out by it,

even though we did not mention Christianity at all.
