0:20.3	Well this was a big week for my seven-year-old son Owen. He got his yellow belt in
0:26.1	MMA. Very exciting. Tested in God's belt. Yep. And he learned to ride a bike
0:31.3	without training wheels. Yes. Hallelujah. That was the big one. A lot of fears
0:38.5	around this the last few years. A lot of fears, a lot of tears around removing
0:43.1	those training wheels. But this last week I decided as a parent to try a different
0:48.0	tactic. As he cried about the potential of riding a bike without training wheels
0:53.1	I looked down at him and I said son what are you so afraid of? And he said I'm
0:58.3	afraid I'm gonna fall. And I said son you will fall. And I remember as I say
1:06.5	that I could look in his face like why are you saying this? Worst fears confirmed
1:11.1	what are you doing? And I said son you will fall and it will hurt. But then I
1:16.5	said but you will rise up and you will learn and you will attain a skill
1:22.9	on the other side of this that will thrill you as it opens up a world of
1:27.5	possibility. There's a promise through the pain that's worth it. But the only
1:33.1	way to it is through it. And what I found was amazing about that is it worked. I
1:40.5	told him pain is coming which normally sounds like a scary thing but by
1:45.4	telling him the reality the pain is coming he was allowed to prepare for it.
1:49.1	You know a lot of times with kids what terrifies them so much is not just the
1:53.1	pain it's the shock of unexpected pain. And so a warning can be a comfort.
