Life is difficult, and in the midst of suffering it can be hard to have hope. 0:23.2	fellowship of the ring this weekend we've been reading to the series
0:26.7	together and decided to chase it with the movies. Now let me say this I know
0:31.5	that a middle-aged white pastor quoting Lord of the Rings is a cliche I get it
0:35.7	but just go with me for a second here please. We were watching a bit of a
0:40.9	documentary about JR Tolkien too and it was interesting to watch my kids be
0:44.5	shocked his mother died when he was very young and one of my kids turned and
0:48.5	said he's a half orphan and I'm like I mean you don't quite say it that way but
0:52.5	yes and then minutes later you find out his father died while he's still young
0:55.8	and she's like he's a whole orphan I'm like again yes technically you could say
1:00.1	it that way and then he shipped off to war and watched many of his friends die
1:05.6	there and my kids were just like man this guy has just faced enormous tragedy
1:10.2	in his young life and yet as his story continued the author JR Tolkien found
1:16.3	refuge in his faith in God who guides our story and in a fellowship of dear
1:20.6	friends who surrounded him for the rest of his life and he wrote this story about
1:25.0	a little fellowship of people gathered from all different stripes really
1:29.0	shouldn't be friends dwarves elves humans all brought together to accomplish
1:34.1	something bigger than themselves that's the story of the fellowship of the
1:37.7	ring and as I watched it again it had been years of my kids I was struck a fresh
