Summary

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

Pip joins forces this week with the incredible actor TAHAR RAHIM!

You may have been introduced to him through the astonishing ‘Un Prophete’, and most recently you may have seen trailers for the new project ‘The Mauritanian’ - whatever the case, get better acquainted with this awesome human who goes boldy into the craft with a fearlessness and courage that translates directly through the screen. He goes into detail about the lockdown and the effects in him and the movie industry, his relationship with Mohamedou Slahi upon whom his latest release ‘The Mauritanian’ is based - and his experiences being detained in Guantanamo, truth in suffering and mirroring that in performance, rhythm and musicality of language (and different languages), The Eddy, auditions, cinematic antics which ultimately led to a career and also a low-key redemption, and he speaks with Pip about a handful of his other projects too. Mad enjoyable.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. This is the distraction pieces podcast episode 370.

0:06.8

I think I'm joined this week by it to Har Rahim. I was crazy excited to make this one happen because as you'll hear

0:14.6

from the podcast I'm a big old fan of this guy from and profit to last pamphers

0:21.2

to all the stuff that we talk about. I mean we talk about

0:23.6

three of his recent projects I think. So we really get into it but since we recorded this

0:32.0

he's only gone and got gold and globe nominated and all sorts. It was a long list I think it's

0:38.3

nomination. I'm not sure what's what's been announced but yeah his latest film The Mauritonian

0:44.9

has been getting huge award nominations and award tips and that's fantastic. It's a valuable

0:52.0

Glasgow Film Festival platform from February 25th until February 28th. So you can go and check

0:59.6

there and be part of the kind of the premiere as such. It's going to be on Amazon Prime from April

1:06.2

1st so there's that to look forward to as well but I mean it's getting so much award hype and

1:13.3

award talk you might want to jump on that Glasgow Film Festival preview auction. Yeah I really

1:19.2

enjoyed this. He was exactly as lovely as I'd expected. Me and Stacey Martin had spoken about him

1:25.0

briefly earlier in the year and again you're always nervous particularly in this industry man.

1:31.2

You never know who's going to be the good guys and who's going to be the bad guys but everything

1:34.7

I'd heard about to hear implied he was going to be one of the good guys and this conversation

1:40.0

just proved that man. You can't see it but he was moving about in his seat, legs crossed, legs

1:48.4

uncrossed, jumping about sitting on his feet with such excitement as he was discussing these

1:56.0

topics that mean so much to him. A lot of you comment all the time some positive, some negative

2:01.3

about my overwhelming excitement on the subject of film and TV and this world I'm now in

2:08.8

and it was great to have someone that could comfortably match that joy and excitement and not be

2:15.7

beaten down by it all or tired of it all. That excitement was still there. Obviously we're doing
