Summary

Taggart Van Etten is an ultrarunner from Illinois. He made a name for himself at the Tunnelhill 100 in 2019 where he ran an astonishing 12:19 -- one of the fastest 100 mile debuts ever. A short time later he smashed the 100 mile world record on a treadmill, recording an insane 11:32. Taggart is an extremely hardworking and talented athlete and he has a crazy bright future in the sport.

Hey, everybody, what is happening? I hope your life is good. I hope you're healthy and

0:19.9

training is going well. The seasons

0:22.6

are changing and it feels so nice. Welcome to the Pillars podcast. Of course, I am Dylan Bowman.

Always appreciate you for being here and today we've got another awesome chat with a rising star

0:35.0

in the sport of ultra running. Today we welcome Taggart Van Enten to the show,

0:40.2

the absolute savage from central Illinois.

0:43.9

Like Drew Holman, who we talked to a couple weeks ago,

0:46.4

Taggart is a young athlete who has an incredibly bright future ahead of him.

0:51.8

He originally landed on my radar back in November of 2019 when he ran a

0:57.3

ridiculous 12-hour and 19-minute 100-mile debut at the Tunnel Hill 100. This is the fastest 100-mile

1:07.1

debut in history. In a short time later, Taggart further made his presence in the sport known when he ran a

1:15.0

stupefying 11 hours and 32 minutes for the 100 mile treadmill world record, breaking Zach Bitter's

1:23.6

established mark by nearly 40 minutes.

1:29.3

So Taggart has a lot of talent. He had one of the most successful starts to an ultra career than I can remember.

1:35.3

But since then, he's had a couple bits of adversity, a couple hiccups, a couple of DNFs that he has learned from,

1:42.3

and he does a great job of sharing his learnings in this

1:47.2

conversation. And for those who follow Taggart, you know that this kid is just an absolute

1:53.1

beast. He trains harder than anyone that I've ever seen. And I just love his attitude and his all or nothing approach to the sport.

2:03.7

While I wouldn't do it, while I wouldn't necessarily recommend what he does to others,

2:09.4

I love that Taggart is willing to acknowledge the potential consequences of his training

2:16.6

and still have the courage to try any way.

2:19.8

He has a no excuses, no stone unturned type athlete, which I really respect.
