Charlie, we're going to start where we always do at the beginning

and ask you, what are your earliest memories of food?

Right, well, I had an extremely attentive mother who, I imagine having lived through the war as a child herself,

insisted that we all ate more butter and cream than she could possibly force down our throats.

And although it didn't serve my father very well,

who died rather younger than he should have done, having just retired and then went bang with a heart

attack, for myself and my two brothers, we just had a lot of chicken, a lot of cream, and I remember
