I welcome Jonathan Shanzer, executive director of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, a whirlwind tour of the trouble in the Middle East.

We begin with Syria. What we know, and there's no transparency here, is that a group calling

itself Hayat Ther al-Shahmam now said to be in control of the capital

of Damascus and what works of the leverages of government releasing prisoners held in prisons like

the counter Monte Cristo at the same time talking with or negotiating with the Russians about staying

or leaving their bases in Syria since

2015. The man at the center of this has a Norm de Guerr Abu Mohammed al-Jolani. He's a Syrian national

who's served his time with al-Qaeda, with ISIS, and most recently in Idlib

provinces, the head of a coalition made up of nothing but alphabet soups, all of whom, to my

knowledge, are sworn allegiance to al-Qaeda. In other words, these are jihadists. These are cutthroats.
