With Malcolm Holine, Conference of President's major American Jewish organization, Syria, fog of war,

we're very, very pleased to welcome our colleague Jonathan Spire,

Director of Research at the Middle East Forum.

He's the author most recently of Days of the Fall,

a reporter's journey in the Syria and Iraq Wars.

Jonathan, for years, has very carefully kept us informed of the YPG, that is the Kurds of Syria in the northeast

corner of the state.

The reports over the last 24 hours say that the Syrian National Army, new to me, but they're

very much sponsored by Turkey, by Erdogan, by the Turkish

military, have engaged in firefights with the YPG, who are Kurds and who are allied with the U.S.

in some fashion.

There is a U.S. deployment somewhere nearby, said to be as many as 900,

and the YPG has cooperated with the U.S. to watch ISIS who are deployed in the Badiah Desert in eastern Syria.

That's the limits of my map reading. So I welcome Jonathan right now to help us

understand one more detail. There is a report, Jonathan, that the U.S. has broken a ceasefire

between the Syrian National Army and the YPG. Is that accurate? Good evening to you, Jonathan.

Good evening, John, and thank you for

inviting me. Yes, it is accurate. As of this morning, there is officially a ceasefire between those

two groups. What that has done is it stopped the possibility of fighting east of the Euphrates.
