In 2001, an unknown male DNA profile was developed by the CBI lab from the cutting of the rug fibers, the ones that had the crusty stain on them.

The profile was entered into the FBI's combined DNA index system or CODIS.

It remained unidentified. Sylvia's Killers profile matched no one in the database. In February of 2012,

the CBI conducted new updated testing on about 14 items from the crime scene. It conclusively

using the same methods on the quail case. They started the process in January of 2020. UDCs sequenced

two samples from the crime scene and created SNIP profiles of the male DNA contributor. They then

loaded the profiles into both GEDmatch and family tree

DNA and located a relative of the suspect who shared 560 cent to Morgans with him. This woman

was likely a first cousin once removed. It was a complicated family with a large number of members.
