The Welcome back to the evolution of horror. My name is Mike and as ever I am your

host. If you're tuning in for the first time, then welcome. In this podcast, we usually explore the evolution and the history of the horror genre by looking at particular sub-genres across several weeks.

Now, back in October, we finished our journey through the evolution of folk horror and in January

2019 we will begin our new series focusing on the evolution of the zombie movie.

So right now we're sort of midway between two series and we're having a

little hiatus but I couldn't resist the opportunity to cover one of the most

anticipated horror movies of the year. It is of course Luca Guaranino's remake of

Darrio Argento's Susperia. Now I'm sure a lot of you out there might have

already seen the movie at this point. It did. It has been playing at festivals

all throughout the year. It premiered in London at London Film Festival back in

October and I think it's already out in theaters in America and certain other

countries around the world.

So plenty of people at this point will have seen it, but it's finally getting its wide release

in UK cinemas this weekend.

So I sat down with Anna Bugat's Kaya from the BFI and from the final girls and we

discussed the movie in depth. Now as usual with new releases we will start off

doing a spoiler-free discussion so if you haven't seen the movie you will be able to listen to the first section of our review chat.

And then we'll give you a fair and clear warning before we get into the nitty gritty and we discuss spoilers.

Although I should probably also mention if you haven't seen the original

Susperia from 1977, there's probably going to be minor spoilers for that movie

sort of peppered throughout this entire discussion because naturally we do

sort of compare and contrast we talk about specific characters we may even talk about specific moments
