The suspect arrested earlier this year in Texas's notorious Lovers Lane cold case murders has died in custody before he could be tried for his alleged crimes.

Floyd William Parrott was found unresponsive in his Nebraska prison cell April 28th from an apparent suicide.

The 64-year-old was awaiting extradition to Texas to face Capitol murder charges for the alleged killings of 22-year-old Cheryl Henry and 21-year-old Garland Andy

Atkinson. The pair were found near a remote road nicknamed Lovers Lane in Houston on August 23,

1990. They had been stabbed in the throat with an autopsy showing Henry was also sexually assaulted.

For 36 years, the case remained unsolved until a piece of DNA from the alleged murders matched a sample

previously submitted by

Parrott in a 1996 sexual assault case. He was taken into custody back in March.

Since his arrest, multiple survivors have contacted police to reveal new assault allegations

with authorities investigating a linked to a Louisiana cold case. There's more on this story
