But I want to begin tonight's broadcast with the shooting at Saturday night's White House Correspondence Dinner.

Today, the suspect 31-year-old Cole Allen from California appeared in court for his preliminary hearing.

He is charged with trying to assassinate the President of the United

States, taking a firearm across state lines to commit a felony and discharging a gun during a

violent crime. The senior White House official tells MS now that President Trump's chief of staff,

Susie Wiles, will hold a meeting on presidential security early this week. That meeting will

include the White House operations team,

Secret Service, and Homeland Security.

Today, Trump's top law enforcement officials spoke after the suspect's court hearing.

An acting attorney general Todd Blanche defended the response of officers on Saturday night.
