This week, how Hitler's Girl Guides were indoctrinated from the age of 10.

Anti-Semitism was all pervasive.

Plus the 1986 Lake Nios disaster in Cameroon,

and the man who transformed Benidorm into one of Spain's top tourist destinations in the 1960s. Aughtorise a poor decreto the bikini.

One of the things I did was to issue a decree allowing the bikini to be worn within the town limits of

Benadorm. This caused a big scandal across Spain.

That's coming up later in the podcast, but we begin with one of the most barbaric

stories to have emerged after the end of the Second World War.

Alongside the images of the Nazi concentration camp victims

and survivors, perhaps the most harrowing pictures were those of the British and Commonwealth

POWs who had been held as slave labour by the Japanese in the Far East.

Claire Bose has been speaking to a man who survived sickness, starvation and brutality

as a prisoner of the Japanese during World War II in common

with many thousands of others who didn't survive he was forced to work on the so

called Death Railway and to help build a bridge over the river Quay.

It was a primitive life.
