What's going on guys and girls? It's Kevin from Epic Gardening here. So today on our final episode with Stephen Cornette I thought we would have a little bit of a tear down episode. As you know, I'm doing the Apocalypse Grow challenge in June where I'm going to attempt to live off of what I can grow in my garden,

0:16.0

what I can forage in the wild, and what I can fish from the ocean.

0:21.0

So it's an interesting challenge, and if I'm totally honest with you I

0:24.3

definitely cooked up the idea a bit too late later than I would have liked at

0:29.4

least and that's definitely forced me to adjust my growing strategy.

0:33.2

So what I figured I would do is just give an overview of my thoughts on this

0:38.4

and what I'm trying to do to make this thing work for me.

0:41.7

And then Stephen actually later today we're going to go

0:44.0

film a video about it and Stephen's going to kind of critique the ideas and give me some tips and tricks,

0:48.9

but we're going to do a little preview of that right now. So basically here are the rules of the challenge. I am

0:54.2

allowed to grow as in garden, forage and fish. I can also barter, but I'm only

1:00.0

allowed to barter for things that other people have grown or produced themselves and I have to

1:05.1

barter at fair market value.

1:06.5

So I can't go over to Stephen and say, hey man, you know, why don't you just cut me a deal?

1:10.7

I'll give you a potato for three dozen eggs.

1:13.1

It's just not, it's not a fair deal.

1:15.1

And so I'm not allowed to do that because then the challenge would be too easy.

1:19.5

So the way I'm approaching it is as much as possible, I'm going to try to be producing on either my house here or my friend's yard where we've got a couple terraced sections that I'm doing potatoes in.

1:32.0

And that kind of brings me to the strategy. The strategy is divided at least on the gardening side into two pieces that of growing calories and that of growing nutrient-dense vegetables.

1:44.0

So, you know, you really can't get through a month without a caloric intake.

1:48.0

And when it comes to plants, the most obvious choice that's easy to grow,

1:52.0

you can grow it in a relatively short amount of time. the most obvious choice that's easy to grow.
