Summary

Justin’s big brain gets put to good use as a writer, speaker and broadcaster. Over the last couple of decades, he’s brought together the world’s most famous atheists for debates and discussions, and has had a front seat in observing a massive shift away from angry atheism towards openness to the gospel, including some very high-profile converts to Christ. It’s deeply encouraging!

So I meet people on this journey all the time who are these lapsed atheists who are now.

0:07.0

They've become disillusioned with liberal humanist values.

0:11.0

They've realized it's a dead end.

0:13.0

It doesn't actually bring life.

All we got by abandoning the Christian story and replacing it with a technological story

0:20.0

is a lot of confusion, cultural,

0:23.3

mental health crisis. You know, it's basically been a really bad thing. And so everyone gets that,

0:28.8

everyone sees that we can't go back. But where do you go to? Something's changed in the atmosphere.

0:36.1

There seems to be this new openness.

0:38.3

Welcome, everybody. This is Simon Gilbo with Inspired.

0:44.3

Inspired if you're new to us is all about meeting different connections and friends of mine from across the spectrum of human experience.

And I'm just sick to death of being relentlessly bombarded by negativity and bad

0:56.1

news in the press. It just induces fear and cynicism and depression and apathy and yeah.

And what we need is to feed ourselves good stuff. And I think that's why the podcast has

1:05.3

been so fruitful. It's so encouraging hearing about what is going around the world, what people

1:09.5

are up to. And I've got no doubt you're going to be inspired this week because we got with us the wonderful Justin Braley. Welcome, Justin. Thank you for having me, Simon. It's a pleasure to be on the show. I've heard so many good things about it, have listened as well. So really delighted to be with you. Oh, thanks, bro. And we're trying to work out how far we go about. We reckon it's about 25 years to when you were in your student days with what became your wife, Lucy, at Oxford. And I came to an OIQ event. And that was when I first heard about your ministry. And just some of the extraordinary stories you were sharing. I mean, I remember lots of the students getting really excited about it. And then I've just obviously kept tabs and track what you've been doing ever since. So it's, yeah, wonderful, wonderful to be talking to you. Well, thanks, bro. And I've, I've really enjoyed your podcast. And we'll give masses of plugs and be talking about that into your course. So let's just crack on with it now. Don't know much about your background. Was it fairly

2:01.1

conventional upbringing? Not entirely conventional because my parents both became Christians

2:06.1

kind of in the UK version of the Jesus People Revolution. So they were both kind of hippies.

2:10.9

If I know if they were both at Oxford University as well, but they very much became Christians at

2:15.3

university, partly through the Ministry of St. Old Age Church.

2:19.3

But they actually joined quite a radical Christian sort of commune

2:23.3

in their early 20s, and I was born into that.
