Summary

Whilst his father was a hard-working bus driver, Brian (with his sister) built the nation’s biggest bus company, Stagecoach. It reached FTSE 100 status, and was floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1993, valued at £134million. He is Scotland’s most generous man, giving away more than £150 million over the last few decades. His whole message is of surrender to Christ and offering up all he has for God’s glory. It’s a superb podcast and as inspiring/entertaining as any I’ve done.

God gave me a weird gift, which was a logistics gift about buses. Through that, we were blessed

0:15.0

That's the way God wired me. I'm an entrepreneur. I get a kick out of doing deals and making money.

But that's a different experience from the kick you get when you then take that money

Welcome, everybody. This is Simon Gilbo with Inspired. It's so good to be back for another fantastic week of listening to a wonderful story of faith.

And if you're new to us, inspired, it's all about meeting different people, different journeys. I am sick to death of the relentless bombardment on the media, 24-7 news cycles. Get off it because it just, well, maybe five minutes a day is good to know what's going on the world. But otherwise, you're just letting someone else curate all the bad stuff going on the world to make you more depressed and cynical and fearful and anxious.

And so we need to hear good news.

1:13.3

And I've got no doubt this week you're going to be inspired because we've got with us

the wonderful Sir Brian Souter.

1:18.2

Welcome Brian.

1:19.2

Hi, nice to be with him.

1:20.6

Oh, it's so good to have you.

1:22.7

So Brian, I don't want to say too much because the sort of CV, if you like, of what he's done has been so much.

1:29.4

You would associate him with stagecoach, with his sister, Anne.

1:34.2

He founded stagecoach.

1:35.9

And we could talk about megabus and Southwest Trains and being knighted in 2011 for services to, what is it?

1:44.0

Services to transport and the voluntary sector.

1:46.0

The voluntary sector would be the suit of charitable trusts who has given away.

1:51.0

I mean, Brian would be one of the, well, probably the most generous Scott in the world living today
