Behind the Black, I'm John Batchel, Bob Zimmerman is here.

We go to an update on the sunspot count and the significance of it we don't know.

0:13.6

But we count them.

0:14.7

Bob, Parker made a record fly by the sun recently, exploring mysteries of the sun. I've learned to say we don't

0:22.4

know nothing, and what we do know, we probably don't know. So the Sunspot update, we do have that.

0:27.8

What direction now, Bob? This is an interesting thing in behind the block. Every month, for 15 years,

0:35.8

I've been posting Sunspot updates and when I did my update this week

0:40.0

at the start of January I discovered I forgot to do it in December that's a that's that's uh

0:44.3

unprecedented the first time I forgot nobody knows and one one of the reasons no one notices that

0:49.7

the changes from month to month sometimes aren't that significant. And in fact, it hasn't been that significant.

1:18.8

lower activity period for about one or two days for four months. And the real question is,

1:23.8

is it going to start to ramp down to a minimum at this point, which would be

1:28.1

interesting because that means the maximum would be very, very early? Or are we going to see

1:31.7

another peak? A double peak? That would be the second double peak maximum in a row. And that

1:36.1

could be the case. And once again, we have to remember they don't really know anything because

1:40.1

though we know some spots happen on an 11-year cycle approximately, with periodic long

1:46.0

minimums over decades where there's no maximum at all, they don't understand really the magnetic

1:51.7

processes in the sun that cause this cycle of sunspots. They know the sunspots are formed
