Summary

It's officially summer, and things are heating up. Esau is joined by Justin Giboney and producer Mike to swap summer playlists, celebrate Kirk Franklin's unexpected honor at the BET Awards, talk about what kids should do during the summer, and unpack the recent protests in Los Angeles following aggressive ICE raids. What does faithful protest look like? How do Christians respond when political theater overshadows human dignity? And can you really call it a cookout without Earth, Wind & Fire?

Welcome to the Eastside McCauley podcast. I'm your host, Eastonle Macaulay. For the second week in a row, this is the first time you've had a guest back-to-back. That's exciting. Yeah, maybe if we do it with a three-peat be back-to-back-to-back. They can call that a LeBron. I'm sorry. I mean, I'm Michael Jordan. Yeah. Has LeBron ever gone back to back?

0:20.3

He's lost that many times.

0:23.1

Nobody can ruin a good moment like you saw. I'm doing the open. I'm doing the Oprah. I'm doing the Oprah. Let LeBron live. We have we have Justin Gibney who's back on the podcast for a second time. And we have producer Mike who is just always here because he has to produce. I won't go away. Now, can I say one quick thing that surprised me?

0:39.9

What is that?

0:40.6

In being in, can I say one quick thing that surprised me?

0:39.9

What is that?

0:40.6

When I came live, because last time it was live, I don't know why, but I thought Mike

0:45.7

was like 5, 7.

0:48.7

Mike's like 6.3, right?

0:51.0

I am.

0:51.6

I'm like 6.3, yeah.

0:54.4

So, wait a minute. You thought that How tall you, Mike? I'm like 6.3, yeah. So, wait a minute.

0:56.3

You thought that Mike was 5, 7, he's 6.3? So how tall him on there? I don't know why. I didn't have any reason to think that. It just, I don't know. How tall am I, though? How tall am I? I'm like basically 6-1, 6-2, would you say? I'm like five eleven.

1:10.4

I thought maybe he didn't know

1:11.3

I was a little generous.

1:13.2

The little generous. Sixth is a little generous. Sixth is a little generous. So we're in the beginning of the summer. We're going to be talking about a slightly summer themed episode. So I thought we were opening it up. And I must admit that I said to Justin, I wanted a summer theme playlist.

1:29.3

What I actually mean was a cookout playlist.

1:31.6

So if this is a little bit different than mine, what I have in mind is, what is music that you have heard at a cookout, if you're at the function?

1:39.4

And so we're going to go around and everyone's going to give their list.

1:42.7

I'm going to let you go first, Mike?

2:51.0

No. Okay, I'll go first. I'll give you. I'm already at such a disadvantage for this game. I'll give you mine. The first one I had was September. Even though it's in the summer, September, the song about State, they were earth wind and fire. That is a guaranteed summer hit. I then had Motown Philly by Boys to Men, Dewaup by Lauren Hill, and ooh, I'm trying to think of the last one I want to do. Outstanding by, is that the OJs? Who did the Gat band? The Gat band, Outstanding. Yeah. Outstanding. So that's my list. September, Outstanding, Motown Philly, Dewwop. That's my summer. That's my cookout playlists. What do you got, Justin? So again, mine was a summer playlist, not necessarily a cookout. First one I had was Roar Air's Sunshine. And so that's like old, my dad put me on that like the first day I was born. So that's the old school one. I like Lecrae cruising. I think that's church clothes three. I thought that was a really good one. Oh, yeah. Dom Kennedy, still me. Okay. Which I think is on the from West Side with Love for the first album. And then Seelow from Goody Mob, my kind of people.

All these should be clean versions, people.
