Over the summer, I'm sitting down with some interesting political figures

who I think will be shaping the political weather over the

rest of the year. Some of them you might be familiar with, others possibly not.

But I'm sure you'll be absolutely familiar with our second guest.

Jacob Reismog, the Conservative MP

for Northeast Somerset. Following a successful career in finance, he arrived in the

House of Commons in 2010 after flipping his constituency in the West Country from Labour.

After spending several years learning his craft on select committees and the backbenches,

he rose to prominence as an indefatigable advocate of Brexit.

Earlier this year, he became head of the influential European research. de facto are and critics of the Prime Minister's Checkers' Compromised Strategy for exiting the EU.

Jacob, thank you for finding time to speak to the FT.

You've recently returned from New York, where you had a brushback on the street with a boxer, Colin McGwin, that became a bit of a social media meme. Were you aware of what happened when you were walking down the street? Well, I was going back to the hotel I was staying,

and it turned out that we were both staying

in the same hotel, and there were some follows of his outside,

and the doorman explained to me that he was a fighter and I didn't know whether that meant he brawled publicly in streets or whether he did it in a professional capacity and I subsequently discovered he did say very successfully in a professional capacity.

It struck me as one of those very bizarre things that does just happen on the streets of New York.
