Summary

Summer Bible Study: Day 21: Martha: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional Resurrection isn’t just something Jesus performs—it’s part of His identity. In today’s episode, we look at how Jesus brings life to places we thought were long gone. Whether it’s hope, purpose, or healing, nothing is too far gone for Him to restore. When we let Him into those broken places, we begin to truly understand who He is. As we continue to study the Lazar's story, I think one of the most powerful takeaways is that

0:07.0

we realize that because of the way Jesus loves us, he moves in his timing, not ours.

0:14.9

We're going to explore some more of the story today. Stay tuned.

0:22.1

Hey, friends, I'm Rachel Gro Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help

0:27.2

you to know God and to make him known.

0:29.9

We are continuing our study of Lazarus from John chapter 11.

0:34.7

And the entire passage we're studying this week is verses 1 through 44. It's pretty long,

0:40.3

so I'm not going to read all of it. I'm going to pick up, um, basically Jesus had gotten word that

0:46.8

Lazarus was dead. He waited two more days and then he sent back to head back towards Bethany and he has this interaction with Martha.

0:58.3

So that's where we're picking up. It says, so when Jesus came, he found that he had already been

1:02.7

in the tomb four days. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem about two miles off and many of the Jews

1:07.4

had come to Martha and Mary to console them and their brother. Martha, therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet him. But Mary stayed at the house. Martha then said to Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. Even now, I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you. Jesus said to her, your brother will rise again. Martha said to him, I know that he will rise again in the resurrection

1:28.7

on the last day. Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will

1:34.2

live even if he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?

1:39.9

She said to him, yes, Lord, I have believed that you are the Christ, the son of God, even he who comes into the world.

1:45.7

When she had said this, she went away and called her sister Mary, saying secretly, the teacher is here and is calling for you. And when she heard it, she got up quickly and was coming to him. Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met him. Then the Jews who were with her in the house

2:01.8

and consoling her, when they saw that Mary got out quickly went out, they followed her,

2:05.7

supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there. Therefore, when Mary came where Jesus was,

2:10.8

she saw him and fell at his feet, saying to him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have

2:15.7

died. When Jesus therefore saw her weeping,

2:18.6

and the Jews who came with her were also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and troubled,

2:23.5

and he said, where have you laid him? They said to him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept.
