suffering. I want to talk about its purposes in shaping Hard Men, some of the ways God has used suffering as the formative

principle in school for training in my own life, and I want to look at why is

it that the best men are those who have suffered much?

I want us to see just how trials creating us virtues like fortitude, long suffering, courage,

and even patience under trial.

And finally I want to examine and connect the ways in which suffering is being used in God's

larger moment in the church and the nation.

I want to talk about how I think God is going to use this new

generation of men who have suffered to bring about the changing of the guard in the

leadership of the broader church in America and why I think that's going to happen

in the coming days and months and years.

So first of all I want to share with you some of the ways over the last couple of

years that God has been shaping me through my own sufferings.

Now I share some of my own personal story

for two main reasons.

First, Paul told the Corinthian Church

that, quote,

we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren,

of our trouble which came to us in Asia,

that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life.
