but will remain relatively high because of the war in Ukraine.

We begin in Sudan and as we record this podcast, there are reports of heavy fighting in parts

of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, even though a ceasefire is meant to be in place.

Both the Sudanese army and the rival rapid support forces have said they're prepared to extend

the three-day truce, which expired at midnight local time on Thursday.

Almost two weeks of clashes between the two factions have left hundreds of people dead

and forced tens of thousands from their homes.

Diplomatic efforts to persuade the two rival generals to stop the fighting have been continuing

with the UN, the US and African countries all involved.
