Hey, everybody. Welcome back to the What Is Money Show. I am sitting down again today with Mr. Lester.

0:16.7

And we're going to be diving deeper into this book, The Twilight of Gold.

0:23.5

And I'll open by reading an excerpt here that I think really highlights the importance of gold as a base layer operating system,

0:35.4

perhaps is the right analogy, to a lot of human action in the world, whether we

0:39.1

realize it or not. The authorites quote, the gold standard in the classical sense was part and

0:46.8

parcel of an economic order. It was a keystone of the system of public law, social customs, and institutions that

0:56.3

rested on what appears in perspective as virtually unlimited freedom of consumer

1:01.9

choice, business enterprise, and markets, unquote.

1:08.0

that rest upon gold at its foundations.

1:42.8

2:03.5

military. The military is nested within the geopolitical order. And the primary asset of the geopolitical

2:13.7

order is gold, right? The reason the United States is the superpower is because we have

2:20.6

the most gold in the world. And we use that to fund the most dominant military in the world.

2:27.4

So I've come to see a lot, you know, a lot of human history as people fighting over the gold, which, you know, as I think it was Rothschild said, give me the power to issue a nation's currency and I care not who makes its laws.

2:46.1

It's like he who has the gold makes the rules kind of thing.

2:54.8

Yeah. he who has the gold makes the rules kind of thing. Do you feel like gold still has that power?

3:01.4

Well, China is today both the biggest net buyer and producer of gold.
