Today we're going to talk about a really important missing factor in subclinical hypothyroidism,

0:27.4

and that is zinc deficiency. Now, what is a subclinical hypothyroid problem? Well, it's a situation

0:35.2

where you have a slow thyroid, but the blood values are still normal. Okay, so if you're

0:42.7

just basing this only on blood tests and you're not looking deeper, you can completely miss

0:47.3

this condition. Now, there are several really important trace minerals involved in thyroid

0:54.2

function, iodine, and making the thyroid selenium in converting T4 to T3 copper involved in the

1:03.2

creation of the thyroid hormone. But another one that's not emphasized is zinc. Zinc is not only

1:10.3

involved in the conversion from T4 to T3, but it's also involved in the synthesis of T4, T3, as well

1:20.2

as the thyroid stimulating hormone, the hormone that comes from the pituitary down to the thyroid

1:25.4

itself. Without enough zinc, you cannot convert these hormones and you can't make thyroid hormones.

1:33.3

Now, this really is important if you're getting hair loss, alopecia, things like that. And if you

1:38.7

don't get enough zinc in your diet, you can take all of these, take thyroid hormones, but you may

1:43.5

not get your hair back. So zinc is very, very important. The other problem is once you have a

1:48.5

hypothyroid condition, you're going to have a hard time absorbing zinc. So the fact that you have

1:54.1

a slow thyroid causes more of a zinc deficiency. So to make this simple, if you have any thyroid

2:00.8

symptoms, don't forget about zinc. One way to get your zinc is to consume more shelf fish.

2:06.2

That would be a good thing, seek help, or just take it as a supplement. And lastly,

2:11.8

I believe zinc is probably one of the most important trace minerals of all the trace minerals.

2:17.2

It does so many different things in addition to helping your thyroid.
