It's a physical trip to a church building where we sit in rows and listen to a pastor present a sermon.

But the Christian life is far more than that.

You see, part of the Christian life includes engaging with other believers for the sole purpose of growing deeper.

Even though I'm a preacher,

I'm convinced a church is not just a gathering of people who sit and listen to one person preach.

It's not that at all.

As important as the message is, it is only part of what happens in the local church.

In addition to a pulpit ministry, there is an essential ministry that occurs on the personal level in each Christian's life, or perhaps, I should say, should occur.

One person's life touches the life of another, who then touches the lives of people in his or her sphere of influence,

those whom the originator would never have even known.

To make things even more exciting,

those recipients in turn touch the lives of others also.

Dr. Dwayne Lytton, former president of Wheaton College, calls this the endless chain

of Christian discipleship. The navigators call this the ministry of multiplication. Both are correct.

Now, why do I say all of this with such conviction?

Well, partly because I am the product of this kind of discipleship.

I have been personally mentored.
