Summary

As a companion piece to The Soho Strangler series, I've included some in-depth analysis of each aspect. Such as; the demonising of the victims, the reliability of eyewitness testimony, false articles, public lies, other prostitute murders, how even a suspect's statements can be twisted by the press, as well as the timings of Norman Stephenson. This is NOT essential listening.

This episode is about public lies.

Murder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name and additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0. Welcome to Sohu Strangler Week by Murdwell. To accompany the series, here's a few extra

0:12.5

details from the police files and the court records. To age your enjoyment and maybe even

0:18.2

help you grant the case. This episode is about the lies created by the

0:24.6

public. So it's shocking to think that when we're dealing with the murder

0:29.3

investigation where clearly someone has died in a very traumatic way and there's a

0:33.4

lot of people who are very upset and police with a very strict timeline trying

0:37.5

to work out who did what to who and when and for what reason that it would be

0:45.1

baffling that someone would actually lie to the investigation but people do.

0:50.2

And there's a multitude of reasons why it's not just straight out of lies.

0:54.1

There's obviously little white lies and misinterpretations but do you know

0:58.1

people do it because they want to help. They have a misbelief about what they

1:02.4

have either seen or heard. Some people do it because they deliberately want to

1:07.4

frustrate the investigation and others do it to get friends, ex lovers,

1:13.7

colleagues into trouble. So we're going to dive into a couple of things that

1:19.3

cropped up during the Soho Strangler killings. So during the murder of

1:25.0

FIFA I focused on these ones because this was around a time before the press

1:28.6

had kind of really got very excited and we're getting excited about the Soho

1:33.0

Strangler and what it could be and that it's potentially a serial killer.

1:35.9

This was just a very ordinary murder. The murder of French FIFA was quite

1:39.7

ordinary. It was one of these cases that's going to be forgotten. So I felt it

1:43.5

was better to kind of focus on this one so we can get a really good idea

1:47.8

about about the information that people pass on to the police. So the police
