Today's real story is a matter of life and death for our children, not being sensational,

not being dramatic. The combination of cheap thrills and social media fame has caused too many young

lives. Now, today, I'm going to use some specific examples, but the real question that you

should be thinking about when you hear

these is why. Why do these kids need to do something so dangerous just to move the needle, just to get the

thrill? That's the question. The first example that I'm specifically talking about is subway

surfing, where teens videotaped themselves riding on top of train cars. Here's a couple of headlines.

trains. Can they be stopped? Now, first off, before I even go on to talk about these, I really am

bothered by the fact that it's given a cool name in the headlines, subway surfing. That alone, to me,

sensationalizes something that shouldn't be sensationalized at all. It should be described as

foolishly getting on top of a high-speed train car and smashing into something and getting killed.

I know that's a long headline and subway surfing is glib and pithy,

but it really lends itself to something that kids can find glamorous.

Let's go subway surfing.

Come on.

We need to be better than that.

The most recent tragedy last month,

Zimfeira Muktarov, 12, from Brooklyn, and Iba Morina were found dead atop a train in
