Summary

EP8 - Highly sensitive people can often be misunderstood and told they are overly emotional. I discuss my experiences growing up and how that continues to affect me now in my adult life, from my relationship with my mum, sister and boyfriend to how it influenced my eating disorder and can hinder my productivity. It's important that we learn to treat ourselves with a level of care and appreciate the positive parts of our personalities that we have as a result of inherently feeling things in a more intense way. Whilst you may or may not be a highly sensitive person, this episode will teach you more about it and allow you to reflect how this impacts you personally or indirectly through someone in your life.

Hey guys, welcome back to another episode. This episode is called the highly sensitive person. Now,

0:08.0

this has kind of been a very recent understanding. In the first episode, I did say that I was a highly

0:14.5

sensitive child and a lot of you guys wanted me to open up more about it. But if I'm being

0:19.7

honest, that's all my brain had kind of

0:22.8

understood from the situation. I just thought I was a highly sensitive child and then I grew out of it.

0:27.7

And maybe I had a few effects. But I didn't realize there's actually this whole topic and

0:32.3

understanding and research and books about the effects of when you're a highly sensitive child and you're not understood

0:40.7

and then how it basically forms you as an adult. I had a little look online just to check the

0:48.9

kind of description of a highly sensitive child and I want to share it with you guys because

0:53.9

I think then

0:55.3

you're able to relate to it more instead of me just explaining all my situations I can kind of give

0:59.7

you what has been proven to be a highly sensitive person and then my experience is on top I want you

1:06.9

guys to know even if you don't necessarily resonate with this as a highly sensitive person

1:11.8

when you were growing up you are more than likely to know someone that is whether that's a sister

1:16.1

brother you know family member friend or even you know future child or something like that and

1:22.1

I think there's never a bad doing in listening and learning about more stuff. I also think I cover things that's just

1:29.9

the general person, like it's not just one specific category of people. It's talking about

1:35.4

emotions as a general topic. Now, going from what the internet says, the first thing it mentions is, you've been called oversensitive.

1:48.2

For me, that was just something that I was always hearing, oh, she's oversensitive, she's highly

1:53.0

emotional. Yeah, so if you have been called that, that's one sign. Next one is you are easily

1:58.9

overwhelmed by your senses. Obviously, there is sight, smell, taste,

2:03.0

touch sound. For me personally, touch has been the biggest one. I've grown up with, even when I was
