Summary

(Acts 21:8-9) Philip had a powerful influence on his own children. His daughters prophesied, fulfilling Joel’s promise and the Pentecost outpouring. Our work of spreading the gospel begins at home: children are a heritage, and we must raise young men and women as witnesses who will multiply the gospel message beyond our lifetimes. The good news of the gospel is only good news to those who hear it.

Philip the evangelist understood that. He did not keep the message to himself, but he went

wherever the spirit of God led him, and he preached Christ to those who needed to know.

In this study that Scott is calling the gospel Christian, he reminds us that the word gospel

to advance the gospel message.

Earlier this week, I asked you, when is your greatest work done?

0:52.8

And of course, we can't answer all of that.

0:54.8

That really is in the sovereign purpose and knowledge of our God.

0:58.5

But I would say that based on Scripture, it's evident that humanly speaking, a man's greatest work is done in his home.

1:07.5

No one's a better Christian than the Christian they are in the privacy of their own home.

1:11.8

And when you get to the end of your life, it's not about businesses and money and ventures and all

1:17.2

of that. It's about the heritage, not just what you did, but what you leave behind. The heritage that

1:24.3

you pass on to the next generation. One of my favorite evangelist, D.O. Moody, said that he learned that it was not so much about

1:30.8

what he could accomplish as what he could be used of God to set in motion.

1:34.9

And that is why I believe Philip the Evangelist is such a powerful example to us.

1:40.2

We've learned in Acts 21, the final mention of Philip the evangelist, that 20 years removed from when we first met him, he is still faithful, he is still witnessing, and he is still helping. I love that.

1:53.5

Every recorded word of Philip seems to be about Jesus, and every action by Philip seems to be for the gospel's sake.

2:02.8

But now we come to yet another thought, and I want you to please don't miss this.

2:06.6

He is not only still faithful and still witnessing and still helping, but he is still

2:11.9

influencing.
