I was literally on top of the space station.

0:04.0

We were installing antenna on top of the space station.

0:06.4

And so I kind of clipped myself in and got my hands free and sat back

0:09.8

and watched the world pass below me

0:11.8

for about 25 minutes or so.

0:14.0

And what struck me was the reality that what kind of

0:17.6

civilization do we have that allows us,

0:21.1

all these countries working together to put people in space, not just to go to space, but really

0:26.0

to research and challenge ourselves and to explore and to really improve life on Earth.

0:31.8

I grew up carrying buckets of some men for my dad. It was not anything I could conceive of to be sitting on top of the space station installing an antenna. Sometimes I think we all have to stop and take a look, look around us,

0:44.4

look at our environment, just look at the civilization we have we're living in. It may seem

0:50.1

in such turmoil at any given day,

0:53.0

that really billions of people are living together

0:55.7

and getting along.

0:56.7

And that's remarkable.

0:58.0

And I don't think we necessarily appreciate

1:00.8

those aspects of it.

1:02.4

We actually can solve problems when we all work together.

1:06.1

We actually can take care of this incredible planet. We challenge ourselves to

1:10.3

understand it and understand how to make it work.
