Summary

Stephen Metelsky Gary interviews Stephen Metelsky about his life as an Intelligence Unit officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Stephen left his career as a Mountie and entered the academic world but he did not leave undercover work behind. Stephen went into the academic world and he is a criminal psychology professor at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. He also lectures about organized crime in the faculty of arts of sciences at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. Stephen developed and conducts training for undercover officers. Undercover: Stories from the Underworld of Law Enforcement Stephen Metelsky wrote a book with a vivid collection of the harrowing journeys of police officers who entered into the underbelly of organized crime and infiltrated dangerous gangs and other criminal organizations. He tells stories of death-defying experiences that put the reader in a front-row seat to police stories rarely shared by cops. He ranges from the hunt for cartel leader Pablo Escobar to the investigation of the famous Canadian mobster Vito Rizzuto. The reader learns about the infiltration of biker gangs, installing listening devices on New York mob boss Paul Castellano, biker clubhouses, and the Gambino crime family. Hells Angels Metelsky tells about one of the cases that he featured in his book. Jay Dobyns was an ATF agent who infiltrated the Hell’s Angels biker gang. Dobyns went so far as to fake a murder of a rival Mongols gang member to ingratiate himself with his Hell’s Angels club and other harrowing stories. Bonnano Crime Family Stephen Metelsky was part of a task force that turned a Canadian mobster named Vincent Morena in an operation codenamed Project O’Tremens. their informant was able to convince the Buffalo Crime family to induct him into the family and allowed the RCMP to videotape the induction ceremony. In the end, they charged members and associates of the Bonanno and Gambino families of with drug trafficking, loansharking, and firearms charges in a joint U.S.-Canada operation.
